James Bond spy thriller meets Hammer Film's Dracula. We have odd occult rituals with a girl being killed and eventually revived. We got a government spy who witnesses said event and gets killed. The English Secret Service wants nothing to do with the case due to the amount of big wigs involved. So they dump it on A Scotland Yard detective. Who eventually enlist the help of an occult expert named Van Helsing lol.
What we have here is basically Dracula posing as reclusive real estate mogul bent on world domination. Using a new super strain of bubonic plague. What Dracula actually wants to do is wipe off mankind. Ending his food supply and ultimately commit a form of over the top suicide. Well we get a few confrontations with Dracula's wool vest clad 1970's henchman. A few scuffles with his chained up vampire brides. One vampire chick even gets a stake under her exposed booby. Good fx for the era. We also get good a good performance from Peter Cushing as the latter day Van Helsing. He gives some great rants. Christopher Lee was good as the not seen too much Dracula. Although at some points it seemed you could tell he did want to do this movie. Have to say he looked great getting himself tangled in a Hawthorne bush.
Overall not as bad as some may say. A good way to kill 80+ minutes. Cushing provides that much needed Hammer touch. Coulda' used a little more blood but oh well.
